What is chenille: origins and uses of this fabric
Chenille's origins are relatively recent: it first appeared in France around 1930, but has spread since the 1970s, following the fashion trends of the time. In the past, silk and wool were used, but today, cotton is mainly used in the processing of this fabric, since it ensures maximum security even on the most delicate leathers. In fact, chenille is one of the most commonly used fabrics for children’s clothing and accessories. Chenille is as soft as velvet, just like a child's skin, versatile and elastic, ensuring maximum comfort from the start.
Chenille clothing is perfect for mid-season and also for the warmer winter months. The fabric is not heavy enough to involve extreme sweating, but just enough to ensure consistent, long-lasting heat.
How to clean and remove stains
Chenille is a very delicate fabric so hand washing is recommended to avoid any damage. However, it is also possible to wash chenille in the washing machine by selecting the gentle cycle and a temperature that does not exceed 30° - 40°. It's best to use natural, non-aggressive cleaners and avoid using whiteners or bleaches. To protect the embroidery and embellishments and preserve the color, you must turn the garment inside out before each wash. If there are stubborn stains, you can use a tablespoon of baking soda dissolved in a basin of water instead of softener, which will leave your clothes completely sanitized and soft. There are also specialized stain removers on the market that are fine and neutral, allowing you to quickly remove stubborn stains.
These products are specially formulated to be gentle on fabrics and colors. It's crucial to find a product that doesn't contain fragrances, dyes, or bleach, as these substances can also cause allergic reactions. This way, you can also eliminate grease stains, sauces, chocolate, baby food, lipstick, red wine, coffee, fruits and vegetables.
How to Clean a Chenille Baby Onesie
To clean your chenille onesie, just follow a few simple tips. Onesies should always be turned inside out to protect embellishments and preserve color. We wash our hands in a basin or directly in the sink, which we will fill with warm water. Soak the onesie in water, dab the stain with Marseille soap, then rinse with cold water. Soak the onesies again in warm water with a mild detergent, this time letting them soak for 1-2 hours. To disinfect it, just add two teaspoons of baking soda to your detergent. After that we drain them, remove excess water and immerse them in cold, demineralized water for about 10 minutes. Rinse them, wring them out, then spread them between two towels to dry and place them on the table.
How to Clean Chenille Sofas and Armchairs
The upholstery of chenille sofas and armchairs is as delicate as clothing: it can be washed, but only with extreme care. First, the fabric must not get soaked. Pour warm water into a bowl and dissolve a small amount of mild detergent or Marseille soap. Dip the cloth into the bowl, squeeze and rub the stain. Instead, press the damp area with a dry cloth to remove excess moisture. If the stain remains, repeat this process until the stain is completely gone. Alternatively, you can use a mixture of white vinegar and tea tree oil: You can test this on an invisible part of your couch, so watch for reactions.
